Where to Stay in Osh: Major Neighborhoods and Accomodation

Where should you stay in Osh if you’re coming overnight? While choosing the right accommodation is important, selecting a neighborhood that aligns with your goals and interests is equally important. Here is the humble opinion of a (self-proclaimed) local expert on several neighborhoods of Osh and the accommodation options in each.

Aravanskaya

Once named after a street that heads towards the nearby village of Aravan, this district is the de facto center of Osh. Here are the best attractions, coffee shops, and entertainment spots. Choose this neighborhood if you want the highlights of Osh within walking distance. Don’t book a place here if you prefer silence and fewer crowds.

Where to stay:

High-end hotel: Grand Hotel Chavo

Budget-friendly guesthouse: Level Hotel, Ave Boutique Hotel

Where to eat:

Brio: Best coffee in Osh

Palvan Ata: plov and kazan kebab

Ocak Kebab: Turkish cuisine

Navvat: National and European cuisines

Frunzenskaya

Named after a small market (which, in turn, is named after a Soviet military figure) located within it, Frunzeskaya is like the second Aravanskaya. It has several major attractions in Osh, decent food, entertainment, and central government buildings. Osh’s central square and Central Asia’s tallest Lenin statue across the city hall are located here. Several parks stretch along Lenin Avenue and the AkBuura River, making this neighborhood a great option for evening walks, jogging, and other activities. Finally, the best hotels in Osh are located here.

Where to stay:

High-end hotel: Rayan

Budget-friendly guesthouse: Eco House

Where to eat:

Aydar-Ata: National cuisine, good tandoor samsa

Karavan: one of the best plov spots in Osh

Darkhan: another best spot for plov

Ocak Kebab: Turkish cuisine

Ugolok: cozy and delicious cafe

Ethno cafe: national and European cuisines under the shades of trees

Zaynabedinova and Oshskiy Rayon (Osh district)

Our parents’ generation considered this district to be the real city center. Osh’s oldest Jayma-Bazaar, with vibrant shops, goods, and teahouses used to tune the city vibe from here. Although Jayman Bazaar is about to be moved to another location, this area remains busy and crowded.

Where to stay:

High-end hotel: Orto Asia

Mid-level hotel: Sunrise

Hostel: ABS Hostel

Where to eat:

Gulnaz: Overall, a good cafe, one of the People’s Places

Al-Mansur: lagman noodles

Ugo-Vostok

Once upon a time, this was the place where imperial soldiers used to have their country houses. As Soviet urbanization progressed, Ugo-Vostok became one of Osh’s major suburbs, with apartment blocks for the city’s working class. Despite ongoing construction and settlement, this neighborhood remained green, with large trees lining its streets. Additionally, the sound of the rushing Ak-Buura River evokes the countryside. Several university campuses are located in Ugo-Vostok; therefore, you will find many students here. Choose this neighborhood if you want to be closer to nature, yet want to feel the vibrant life of Osh’s college life.

Where to stay:

High-end hotel: Ethno Boutique Hotel

Budget-friendly guesthouse: Zhukov’s

Where to eat:

Can’t think of a distinctive place for some distinguished dishes. However, you will find many canteens and bistros.

Dom-Byta

Now think of a place sandwiched between all the neighborhoods listed above. This is Dom Byta. This neighborhood is a great option if your visit to Osh is brief. Let’s say you are heading to the Pamir Highway and have just an overnight in Osh. First, Pamir Street, which leads to the Pamir Highway, begins in this district. Second, you will want to do proper shopping in the last major settlement before heading to the pristine landscapes of Pamir. Well, Osh’s two biggest malls (Globus and Asia malls) are located here.

Where to stay:

High-end hotel: Cube House (not really in this neighborhood, but quite close)

Mid-level guesthouse: Sultan Saray

Hostel: Time Hostel

Where to eat:

Semeyniy: overall great cuisine, one of the People’s (favorite) Places

Ulyk-Ata: another People’s place

Ocak Kebab: Turkish cuisine

Residencia

One of the most prestigious neighborhoods of Osh (not only because I live here). But also because the president of the Kyrgyz Republic has a southern residence here. The neighborhood is located south of Frunzeskaya, giving access to all the benefits of its neighboring district. It also borders on Ugo-Vostok, making it attractive for nature lovers. It is calm, green, and diverse. The only drawback is the limited accommodation options here. But guess what, I heard that one of the best hotels in Osh (Rayan Hotel) is building a new hotel here.
